AskMyDocs is built with privacy as the core principle. All document processing and AI inference happens 100% locally on your machine. We do not collect, store, or transmit your documents or queries to any external servers.

1.1 Self-Hosted Version (Default)
When you run AskMyDocs locally on your own machine:
- Documents: Stored locally in your
/docsfolder - Search Indexes: Created and stored locally in
/data - User Accounts: Stored locally in
/data/users.json - Analytics Data: Stored locally in
/data/analytics(optional) - Encrypted Vault: Stored locally in
/data/vault(optional)
We do not have access to any of this data. Everything stays on your machine.
1.2 Cloud/Managed Version (If Applicable)
If you use a managed/hosted version of AskMyDocs, we may collect:
- Account Information: Email, name, company name
- Usage Data: Number of queries, documents indexed, features used
- Technical Data: IP address, browser type, device information
- Payment Information: Processed securely through Stripe (we don't store card details)
2. How We Use Your Information
We use collected information for:
- Service Delivery: Providing and maintaining the AskMyDocs service
- Authentication: Managing user accounts and sessions
- Support: Responding to support requests and troubleshooting
- Improvements: Analyzing usage patterns to improve features
- Security: Detecting and preventing fraud or abuse
- Communications: Sending service updates and security alerts
We never:
- Sell your data to third parties
- Use your documents to train AI models
- Share your data with advertisers
- Access your documents without explicit permission
3. Data Storage and Security
3.1 Local Storage
For self-hosted installations:
- All data is stored on your local machine
- You control backups and data retention
- Encrypted vault uses AES-256 encryption
- Passwords are hashed with bcrypt
3.2 Security Measures
- Encryption: Data at rest and in transit (HTTPS)
- Authentication: JWT-based sessions with secure tokens
- Access Control: Role-based permissions
- Regular Updates: Security patches and dependency updates
4. Third-Party Services
AskMyDocs may integrate with:
- Ollama: Local AI model inference (runs on your machine)
- Stripe: Payment processing (for paid plans)
- Analytics: Optional, anonymized usage statistics (can be disabled)
Each third-party service has its own privacy policy. We recommend reviewing them.
5. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of your data
- Correction: Update inaccurate information
- Deletion: Request deletion of your account and data
- Export: Download your data in a portable format
- Opt-Out: Disable analytics or marketing communications
For self-hosted versions, you have complete control over all data.
6. Children's Privacy
AskMyDocs is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by:
- Posting the new policy on this page
- Updating the "Last Updated" date
- Sending an email notification (for material changes)
